Course: Neither Barbie nor Calamity Jane. Girls (without stereotypes) in children's books.

edited by Gioia Suriano and Mariapaola Pesce

eyJpdCI6IiJ9

The female characters in children's books today often have a cruel task: to be a role model for their readers. They must be rebellious girls, champions of the environment, or architects of great changes, because they must prepare the next generations for a future of independence and free from stereotypes.
In reality, throughout the history of children's literature, strong, modern, adventurous characters have appeared who are capable of building their lives in their own way even in less forgiving contexts, while maintaining their lightness and femininity. Where is the difference?

WHERE IT TAKES PLACE: online on the Zoom platform

WHEN: REGISTRATIONS CLOSED! IF INTERESTED IN NEW DATES, WRITE TO US!

PRICE: 90 € (including VAT)

PROGRAM
- Lesson 1. Between fairy tales and tradition: we delve into the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, Andersen, Giambattista Basile, and some works from the
children's literary scene to discover female characters; we observe the determination and strength of the protagonists who inhabit "The Chronicles of Narnia".
- Lesson 2. Between classics and moderns: the process continues with heroines like Anne Shirley (protagonist of Anne of Green Gables), Pippi Longstocking, Matilda, Katitzi, Momo, and Stargirl, along with many other "girls" who populate and enrich our libraries.
- Lesson 3. Choosing and having girls read stories today; comparisons between classic and modern literature; is it better to have superpowers in stories or to be ordinary women? What do children and young people like to read today? What attracts them to the characters in stories? What tools can we provide them to guide their reading choices? Questions and answers.
